Put the Sparkle Back in your eyes

I do not know about you but it feels like I have stepped into a science fiction movie over the last few weeks. Suddenly the scenes around me, look quite different. How life has changed? Let us look at some of these changes through my eyes:

The most obvious change is people wearing face masks and face shields when they leave their homes. It is no longer just the OCD few (including me) that carry around their hand sanitisers. It is now a daily accessory for all.

Exercise is a new experience too. No more large gyms. Now YouTube and Facebook live gyms sessions as well as masses escaping their houses to catch the 3 hoursโ€™ time slot for exercising outside. Even the complex in which I am staying looks different with many immobile cars in their garages. If you look on the balconies people are lying tanning on their loungers during normal work hours.

How about the new grocery shopping experience? From standing outside in long queues to ensure social distancing and once inside loading the trolley to ensure you have enough to last at least for a week. Rush in, dodge your fellow shoppers and get home to your safe zone.

Even businesses look different with a much greater emphasis on Personal protective equipment as well as creating a larger footprint in the digital platform. Zoom, zoom, zoom โ€ฆโ€ฆ. Webinarsโ€ฆโ€ฆ

So, with all of this going on, the new facial aesthetics feature priority has become the eyes and forehead.  The parts of the face that lurk from behind the face mask.

So, it is quite logical that I am getting a lot of queries about treatments for around the eyes, thus the title for this blog โ€œPut a sparkle back in your eyesโ€

Dr Blink Medical Aesthetics Cape town

There are actually a large number of treatments that can help the skin around the eyes.  My BIG FIVE most popular treatments for around the eyes are:

  • Botulinum Toxin
  • Thread lifting
  • Biorevitalisation
  • Chemical peels &
  • Dermal fillers

BOTULINUM TOXIN OTHERWISE REFERRED TO AS BOTOX

What is botulinum Toxin AESTHETIC treatment?

  • Botulinum toxin is used in minute concentrations to soften wrinkles.
  • It involves a relatively quick non-invasive treatment
  • The number of injections is dependent on your treatment objectives including which areas of the face are being targeted for care.
  • The results of treatment may already be noticed within a day or two with the full effect seen within 7 to 14 days
  • The Botulinum toxin treatment effect usually lasts around 4 months, but the duration of effect is dependent on factors such as the condition of the skin as well as sun exposure and smoking

Botulinum Toxin is great for those:

  • crowโ€™s feet (wrinkles to the side of the eyes)
  •  frown lines (those lines between your eyes that can make you look angry continuously)
  • as well as for forehead creases

THREAD LIFTS

What is a thread lift?

A thread lift procedure is used to treat signs of aging on the lower face and other parts of the body. The thread lift involves placing threads below the skin, which are then pulled lifting the skin.

Threads are mainly used to lift the mid-face, jowls and neck but also help to combat other ageing effects such as eyebrow and cheek sagging. Threads are also being used more frequently for lifting other parts of the body such as the breasts.

PDO threads for around the eyes including the dark eye bags and wrinkles are becoming increasingly popular with amazing results.  The threads stimulate growth factor release, fibroblast activation and collagen formation leading to remodelling of the tissue around the eye.

Threads can also be used to raise the eyebrows lifting some of the sagging upper eyelid and giving a modern effeminateโ€ sexyโ€ look.  Threads last for around 18 months.

BIOREVITALISATION

My Mesotherapy treatment involves injecting under the skin, with microfine needles, hyaluronic acid and 59 skin revitalising ingredients including vitamins, amino acids, co-enzymes, nucleic acids and minerals.  This helps create a radiant, even hydrated, and smooth appearance of the skin around the eyes.  This is excellent for dark eye circles as well as puffiness under the eyes and decreases fine lines around the eyes.

Despite great results after a single treatment, repeat treatments are advised to maintain the optimal beauty effect.

This treatment can also be used in combination with botulinum toxin creating a synergistic anti-ageing effect.

DERMAL FILLERS

  • Dermal fillers are non-invasive injectable treatments used for plumping the skin, boosting skin quality, filling fine lines and deep wrinkles, facial contouring and creating more youthful and modern facial features.
  • Hyaluronic Acid fillers (HA), a substance which occurs naturally in the human body, has an anti-ageing effect by stimulating new collagen production and improving hydration.

The filler is injected with a fine needle into the areas requiring enhancement, filling or contouring. Topical anaesthetic gel is applied to the skin prior to injecting.

Fillers usually last around 12 months but it is influenced by various factors including the type of filler as well as correct aftercare.

This treatment is good for hollowness between the lower eyelid and cheek caused by sagging of the cheeks.  This helps to alleviate the gaunt and sunken facial features.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels were used over 3500 years ago by the ancient Egyptians. Since then chemical peels have evolved into highly sophisticated treatments including scientifically tested before and after skin care treatment as well as the selection and application of the correct peel for maximal aesthetic effect.

Chemical peels can be mild, medium, or deep, which refers to how many layers of skin will be affected by the treatment.

Chemical Peels are used for:

  • Fine lines and deep wrinkles
  • Sun damaged and ageing skin
  • Treatment of mild scars
  • Treatment of hyperpigmentation and age spots
  • Dull complexion
