Morpheus8 delivers bipolar RF energy through a matrix of microneedles. While the needles create controlled micro-injuries, the RF energy generates thermal heating in the dermis (reaching roughly 50°C in soft tissue), which triggers neocollagenesis and elastin formation. A key differentiator is its reach: while the pins penetrate up to 4mm, they create an additional 1mm thermal profile, meaning we can influence tissue up to a total depth of 5mm.

- 24-pin Tip: The gold standard for the face and jawline, providing deep remodelling and skin contraction.
- 12-pin Prime Tip: A smaller footprint designed for precision in delicate, bony, or contoured areas like the periorbital (eye) region and the upper lip.
- 0.5mm Resurfacing Tip: Uses blunt, uncoated pins to emit energy across the entire skin surface. It is unmatched for improving shallow acne scars, large pores, and “crepey” skin texture.
Lumecca: The Gold Standard for Skin Clarity
If Morpheus8 is the structural architecture of the face, Lumecca is the paintwork. Lumecca is a high-peak-power Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment that is particularly vital in our South African climate, where the high UV index frequently leads to premature photo-ageing.
Lumecca targets:
- Vascular Lesions: Effectively treating facial redness, telangiectasia (spider veins), and the visible symptoms of rosacea.
- Pigmented Lesions: Clearing sun damage, age spots, and irregular brown pigmentation.

Forma provides the essential surface-level support. It uses continuous, bipolar RF energy to provide bulk heating of the skin. By maintaining a skin surface temperature of 40 to 42°C, Forma induces immediate contraction and long-term collagen production.

Clinical Synergy for Complex Conditions
- The Rosacea Protocol: We treat papulopustular rosacea by combining Morpheus8 and Lumecca. Morpheus8 treats the inflammatory cause by reducing mediators of inflammation and sebum, while Lumecca targets and ablates the visible symptoms (the blood vessels).
Safety, Comfort, and Patient Experience
At Dr Blink, patient comfort is a clinical priority. For high-energy Morpheus8 treatments, we use a potent 30% lidocaine and 5% prilocaine, which we remove section-by-section to ensure maximum numbness during every minute of the procedure.
Safety for Skin of Colour (Fitzpatrick IV-VI)
Because RF is chromophore-independent, it is significantly safer for darker skin tones than many traditional lasers. However, precision is required. For Fitzpatrick IV-VI patients, we reduce energy settings by 20 to 30% for superficial depths (1mm) when doing Morpheus8 sculpting.
Crucially, the 0.5mm resurfacing tip is used with extreme caution or avoided entirely in Fitzpatrick V-VI types to prevent any risk of pigmentary changes.
